the details
questions, answered
what's spot?
spot lets you send a friend a real treat, like a matcha, a pink drink, or a caramel macchiato, instead of money with an emoji. you pick the drink, it lands in your imessage as a sealed sticker, and they open it.
how does the gift actually work?
you pick a treat and seal it into a thread. the other person taps to open it, claims it with their phone number and a 6-digit code, and adds a starbucks gift card to apple wallet. they redeem it like any other gift card.
is it a real starbucks gift card?
yes. opened gifts become a starbucks gift card in apple wallet and spend like any card. it covers up to the credit included. use it for that drink, or anything else at starbucks.
does the recipient need the app?
no. claiming happens right in the message thread, on any iphone. the spot app is for the person sending.
what does it cost?
you pay the price of the treat, the credit that gets loaded onto the gift card. no markup games; the item leads, the price is right there before you send.
what about refunds?
starbucks gift cards are final, so there are no refunds once it's sent. you'll always see the exact treat and the price before you tap send.
